James Pasqua
Dub is the thread just beneath the surface of all James Pasqua does. Dub informs his drumming style, influences his recordings, and follows him around like a cloud of spacey reverb. Dub ties together James’ many talents, including drumming, audio engineering, and even running his own indie record label. Not just his favorite genre, dub is the framework through which James creates.
You may know James from the podcast he co-hosts, A Conversation In Dub, from his band Steppadelic, or perhaps you’ve seen him at a local reggae show or perusing the reggae section at Zia Records. James is always creating, forever immersing himself in the world of music. Some of his biggest influences include Sublime, Scientist, and John Brown’s Body - revolutionary artists who all put a very unique spin on their brand of reggae. James’ vast music knowledge and artful, inventive mind come together to create similarly unique auditory treasures, at once honoring classic styles while also exploring new frontiers of sound.
Though drumming came first after receiving a drum set for his tenth birthday, James’ musical career is as varied as it is prolific. He studied audio engineering at Full Sail University before spending time interning at various recording studios in New York City. Since then, James has been a member of many bands, performed all over the United States, recorded, mixed, played guitar, bass, and percussion, and always brought his own distinctive style with him. In every piece of music he touches, James’ refined approach is apparent, sometimes announcing itself proudly, and sometimes pulsating in the background, elevating the instruments around it.
James’ first solo album, The Arcadia Sessions: A Dub Experience will be released on January 27, 2023. He wrote, performed, and recorded all of the music himself, and the album was mastered by Dubmatix. The Arcadia Sessions: A Dub Experience is a short but sweet instrumental showcase of James’ unique style.
